Around and Around
An Essay on Reoccurrence

(IS) In the book I am reading called To Kill a Mockingbird, many themes or subjects come up again and again throughout the story. (SD) The first thing I want to talk about is how people in Maycomb, especially aunt Alexandra, judge others by their family’s history. (CM) ‘“Don’t be silly, jean Louise”, said aunt Alexandra. (CM) “The thing is, you can scrub Walter Cunningham till he shines, you can put him in shoes and a new suit, but he’ll never be like Jem. (CM) There’s a drinking streak in that family a mile wide”’ is how she explained scouts friend Walter. (SD) Another showing of discrimination is when Calpurnia, Jem, and scout ran into Lula at church. (CM) When Calpurnia brought Jem and Scout to her black church, the young lady named Lula greeted them. (CM) Lula was not very happy that Cal brought some white kids to their church, since the white people were supposed to have their own fancy churches to go to. (CM) I chose this because most of the time the White people insulted the Negro’s in Maycomb. (CM) “You ain’t got no business bringin’ white chillun here-they got their church, we got ou’n. (CM) It is our church, ain’t it, Miss Cal?” heckles Lula. (SD) One last theme that appears often is to the books title, To Kill a Mockingbird. (CM) When Scout asks Miss Maudie about mockingbirds, she says “your fathers right; mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. (CM) They don’t eat up people’s gardens…they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. (CM) That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.” (CM) If you do not quite get what I am talking about, take this for example. (CM) Tom Robinson stated that he helped Mayella around her house, just like how a mockingbird gives us peaceful song every summer. (CM) Even though he fought hard in his trial he was found guilty and put in jail. (CM) He later died when he tried to run away from prison, a death to an innocent bird. (CM) However, not every relation to a mockingbird has to be sad, in fact, the next one is quite comical! In the winter, Jem decided to make a snowman out of the scarce snow covering the ground. (CM) The two siblings decided to make the snowman look like their neighbor, like a mockingbird mimicking a blue jay. Atticus was not very pleased “I don’t care what you do, so long as you do something… [but]you can’t go around making caricatures of the neighbors.” was what he thought of their little snowman.
(IS)Certain things have reoccurred in my life, or to be specific, a certain place has been important many times in my life. (CM)This place is back in the den with 3 couches in it. (SD) I went there if I was stressed or really angry about something that happened that day. (CM)When I was little and I got in trouble, I would go to this place and let myself calm down. (CM)Then I’d look out the window and see the birds playing in the trees and remember that life goes on.(CM) Then I’d go do something else or apologize to whoever I offended. (SD) Sometimes after long days at school right before I do anything, I would sit there for a few minuets to let what I learned at school settle into my brain.(CM) This helped because sometimes I’d come home from school and start doing some math right off the bat, and my brain would come to a screeching halt. (CM)Sometimes on the weekends I would read my devotional and drink some tea. (CM)I feel really connected to god when I do that. (CM)I will miss that little spot in my house once we move. (CS)Perhaps I will find a new place to relax in my new house.
